ANDREW LEMALU, B.A. B.Com LLB
Principal
Andrew was born and bred in Dunedin, Otago and completed all his tertiary studies at the University of Otago. Upon leaving university Andrew joined the New Zealand Police Department, spending 5 years in various policing roles. The experience Andrew gained in his short Police career was invaluable and has certainly assisted in his ability to relate to his client’s issues. Andrew left the Police in 1989 to work as a lawyer in the commercial property team at a large inner city law firm in Auckland. After gaining extensive experience in all areas of law, Andrew commenced sole practice in Ellerslie in 1995. Andrew is a keen sportsman and has a black belt in Shotokan Karate. He regularly attends the gym and is a keen golfer. He supports both the Warriors and the All Blacks.
CATHY HURLEY
Legal Executive
Cathy began her legal career in 1981 as a Legal Secretary and after completing her Legal Executive Certificate in 1985 she commenced working as a Legal Executive. She has previous experience working in a sole charge position running a successful conveyancing practice in Henderson. Most of her career to date has been split between the residential conveyancing and mortgagee sales areas of which she has a thorough knowledge. Cathy concentrates mainly in the areas of residential property and mortgage refinancing. She also assists with commercial transactions and the preparation of wills and powers of attorney. Cathy is married and is a keen Warriors Rugby League supporter as well as enjoying travel, walking and gardening.
KIRSTIN WALTERS
Legal Executive
Kirstin completed her Legal Executive certificate in 1998 and is an Affiliate Member of the NZ Institute of Legal Executives. Her past experience has been gained running small law offices in a sole charge capacity. Kirstin’s high standards and attention to detail has been invaluable in the development and implementation of many office procedures. Kirstin specialises in conveyancing, commercial leases, estates, family trusts and gifting. Her thorough knowledge in trust accounting requirements has gained her the responsibility for all administration in this area. Kirstin has 2 young children and enjoys netball, movies and cooking.
ANGELA ROWSON
Legal Executive
Angela first began working for lawyers in 1982 as a Legal Secretary and in 1987 decided to study for her Legal Executive Certificate. In 1989 she completed her studies and qualified as a Legal Executive. Angela is an Associate Member of the New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives. Angela has extensive experience in residential conveyancing and has a sound understanding of cross lease developments and subdivisions, together with family trust procedures. Outside the office Angela is a keen tramper and also enjoys cycling and running.
SUE KERSHAW
Legal Secretary
Sue is your first point of contact at Andrew Lemalu Law. Her friendly manner and experience means she is instantly able to identify and assist many clients, both on the phone and in person. Sue’s conscientious nature and attention to detail shows through in her ability to uphold the day to day running of the office in her usual high standards. Sue’s assistance in the preparation of documentation, settlement statements, accounts, correspondence and the completion of all settlements is a role highly valued by our team. She is also responsible for assisting with the family trust gifting and the continued maintenance of the gifting programme database. Beyond work Sue is married with 2 children. She also enjoys walking, boating and all family activities.
